Since July 2023, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has received fees from point-of-sale (POS) services totaling Rs 647 million, of which Rs 309 million has been set aside for employee welfare programs.
Senator Mohsin Aziz recently asked about the entire revenue received by July 2024 through a Rs 1 fee per POS invoice and its subsequent utilization during a hearing of the Senate Standing Committee on Finance.
The FBR clarified that this revenue, which was approved by the former Finance Minister, is designated for a number of uses, such as media campaigns, funding employee welfare for the IRS, and monthly pricing schemes for customers at Tier-I retailers. It also aims to improve the technical and logistical capabilities of POS teams.
