At Tollerton Airfield, plans to erect 400 residences and a primary school have been proposed.
These consist of tearing down the air traffic control tower, the café, and the runway.
Naveed Ishaq, who works for Flight Training and is stationed at the airfield, described it as “quite upsetting” because losing it would be a “great loss.”.
Vistry Homes submitted the application to Rushcliffe Borough Council as a part of a larger plan to develop 1,600 dwellings at the airfield, which is also the location of Nottingham City Airport.
The training school’s operations manager, Mr. Ishaq, expressed fear for the future of his employees and the other businesses operating there.
“It is really distressing since hundreds of people—including students—will lose their jobs and have to relocate if it closes.
For the residents of Nottingham, this airfield is fantastic. Its runways are exquisite.
“For it to close down would be a big loss for ourselves, for all the companies and the East Midlands emergency services based here.”
