According to a copy of the legislation, the federal government has recommended harsh sanctions for those who propagate false information.
Offenders might be sentenced to up to five years in jail or fined Rs1 million under the original draft of the Cyber Crime Amendment Bill.
It further stated that the “Digital Rights Protection Authority” would have the authority to request the removal of content from social media and to prohibit or ban law enforcement organizations.
Additionally, the authority would have the ability to eliminate any content that incites animosity toward the government and its institutions.
Six members and a chairperson would make up the authority, and decisions made by the body might be challenged in court.
