Due to conflicting advise over compliance with an order backed by Elon Musk to list their work from the previous week in an email or risk termination, US federal employees were left in a state of bewilderment on Monday.
The office that issued the email, which asked, “What did you do last week?” emphasized 48 hours later that responses were optional and that agencies were free to choose how to respond.
However, President Donald Trump suggested that employees who did not comply with Mr. Musk’s demand might be fired or “sort of semi-fired” as this new guideline was distributed to federal agencies.
Additionally, Mr. Musk reiterated the directive later Monday night, giving employees one last opportunity to react.
