Both Israel and Hamas reported on Wednesday that gunfights in both the northern and southern Gaza regions had grown more intense throughout the course of the previous night.
Israeli tanks encountered fierce opposition as they advanced into the cramped residential areas and winding lanes of the insurgent bastion of Jabalia in the northeast. Locals reported that the army demolished several house clusters in previously uninvaded areas.
Rescue personnel have not been able to respond to calls for assistance from locations where the army was operating, according to Gaza’s Civil Emergency Service and Health Ministry.
