One of Hollywood’s most talked-about actresses and a young rising star, Sydney Sweeny, was recently attacked by a leading female producer in the industry, who claimed that “she can’t act.”
When the film producer, Carol Baum, chatted with New York Times film reviewer Janet Maslin during the screening of her 1988 picture Dead Ringers, which starred Jeremy Irons, the critic did not hold back in her criticism of the 26-year-old actress.
In front of the audience, Carol remarked, “Everyone is in love with Sydney Sweeney, the actress.”
“I don’t get Sydney Sweeney,” she said, mentioning the movie Anyone But You. I wanted to watch Sydney Sweeney’s movie, so I was viewing it on the plane.
“I wanted to know who she is and why everybody’s talking about her,” Carol said to Maslin.
“I watched this unwatchable movie-sorry to people who love this movie-[this] romantic comedy where they hate each other,” Carol said, expressing her disdain of the film.
Referring to her producing class at the USC School of Cinematic Arts, Baum went on to remark, “I said to my class, ‘Explain this girl to me.'” She lacks beauty and acting skills. How come she’s so hot?
“There was no response,” Baum continued.
In addition to producing 34 movies, including the Dead Ringers remake, Carol Baum wrote and released a book last year called Creative Producing.
