Finnair stated that the weigh-ins are “voluntary and anonymous” and will help ensure that the airline does not exceed the permissible weight for safe take-off.
Volunteer passengers will be weighed with their carry-on luggage, and only the customer service representative stationed at the measuring point will be able to view the entire weight.
The acquired data would be kept separate from a passenger’s personal information, according to the airline.
Voluntary weigh-ins have begun at Helsinki Airport’s departure gates.
