This Monday, Mr. Yousaf announced his resignation as the head of the SNP and Scotland’s first minister. He called any notion that he would be forced out of power to make way for John Swinney “complete and utter rubbish” and declined to comment on the future course of his party.
The outgoing leader acknowledged that there is no “shortcut” to Indyref2, but he denied that Scottish independence is farther away than it has ever been.
Furthermore, Mr. Yousaf is advising prospective candidates to encourage one another rather than disparage one another after having “reflected” on his involvement in the intense leadership campaign of the previous year.
During the upcoming weeks and months, Mr. Yousaf stated he anticipates a “rollercoaster of emotion” in an interview with news Scotland correspondent Connor Gillies.
“I will definitely be regretting how it ended,” he remarked.
