Salman Ali Agha claimed four wickets in the opening ODI of the three-match series on Wednesday at Boland Park in Paarl, but Heinrich Klaasen’s 86 helped South Africa reach a target of 240 runs against Pakistan.
With a crucial fifth-wicket partnership between captain Aiden Markram and Klaasen, the host team amassed 239/9 in their allocated 50 overs after choosing to bat first.
With openers Ryan Rickelton and Tony de Zorzi scoring 70 runs for the first wicket in 10 overs, the hosts got off to a fast start in their innings.
Salman Ali Agha, an all-rounder, then changed the tide in Pakistan’s favor by quickly taking four wickets and bringing South Africa down to 88/4 in 13.4 overs.
