This past Friday at the Apex Group Bermuda Sail Grand Prix, during the third fleet race of a practice day, members of Team USA went flying out of their boat when it capsized. It was quite the scene.
The U.S. boat unexpectedly overturned as it approached Mark 1 due to an inverted top wing.
Despite the fact that none of the six crew members on the American team’s boat were seriously hurt, five of them were thrown overboard.
Based on information from the US F50 boat, it was concluded that “user error” was the reason behind the capsize. Victor Diaz de Leon, the wing trimmer, inadvertently flipped the wing by pressing a button.
