KARACHI: Late Monday night, tensions in the city erupted after a motorcyclist was killed by a speeding water tanker close to Jail Chowrangi. This incident brought the city’s road safety issues back into the public eye.
Public indignation was sparked by the catastrophe, as angry residents burned five water tankers close to the port city crash scene. Firefighters, however, arrived quickly, putting out the fire and halting additional damage.
Ziaul Hassan Lanjar, the Sindh Home Minister, ordered police officers to provide a thorough report on the accident and the violence that followed as soon as he became aware of the worsening situation.
In order to stop similar tragedies in the future, the minister again emphasized the necessity of tougher enforcement of traffic laws.
