Authorities in Spain said Wednesday that devastating flash floods have killed at least 95 people, while rescuers frantically searched for scores more who had gone missing.
Spain’s Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Angel Victor Torres, reported that 92 persons were killed in the most impacted area of Valencia. One person perished in Andalusia, and two more perished in Castile-La-Mancha.
According to the state weather office AEMET, Valencia experienced its heaviest rainfall in 28 years on Tuesday, with up to 12 inches of rain falling in a few hours in several places in southern and eastern Spain.
The search for scores of missing persons is still ongoing, according to emergency services in Valencia, Castile-La-Mancha, and the city of Malaga, among other areas.
