Under a new project, hundreds of victims of domestic abuse will get financial rewards of £2,500 each to assist them in leaving their abusers. This month’s £2m scheme is being hailed as a “lifeline” for women who are unable to leave abusive relationships or are compelled to return because they are unable to pay for necessities. During the program’s successful test last year, 600 victims received £250 or £500. According to a review, 80% of applicants bought food, clothes, diapers, and security cameras with it in addition to using cash to flee to a secure place. These “flee funds” will be distributed throughout England and Wales under a new Home Office-funded program run by Women’s Aid charities. The program also provides an extra £2,500 payment to cover.
