LAHORE: A contentious piece of legislation was enacted by the Punjab government on Friday, dissolving the Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) and creating a new organization that will be largely staffed by bureaucrats and directly directed by the chief minister.
The action is interpreted as an effort by the provincial administration to establish more authority over the province’s forensic science services.
On February 12, Punjab Finance Minister Mujtaba Shuja ur Rehman introduced the Punjab Forensic Science Authority Act 2025 in the Punjab Assembly. On March 14, it was later passed.
