One day after being shot at from a roof at a campaign event by gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks, the former president made his way to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, for the convention.
“The speech I was going to give on Thursday was going to be a humdinger,” Trump stated in an interview with the Washington Examiner on a Saturday night flight.
“This would have been one of the most incredible speeches if [the assassination attempt] had not occurred,” he remarked, primarily criticizing President Joe Biden’s policies.
“To be honest, it will be a completely different speech now,” with a message of harmony for the nation and the globe.
On Sunday night, his plane touched down at Milwaukee airport. He pump his fist on the stairs and rode off in his motorcade to a hotel, followed by cheers from his followers.
Due to the attempted assassination, Trump said earlier on Sunday on his Truth Social website that he would be postponing his trip by two days. “But I have just decided that I cannot allow a’shooter,’ or potential assassin, to force a change to scheduling or anything else,” he said.
