Gia Pergolini, Julia Ganney, Jessica Long, and Anastasia Pagonis, swimmers, were all reprimanded for remarks they made regarding Christie Raleigh Crossley, a fellow swimmer who suffers from the neurological condition S9.
The Washington Post claims that their remarks are blatantly against the guidelines of the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee.
We can confirm that a number of athletes have been sanctioned for inappropriate behavior,” a USOPC representative said in a statement to The Washington Post. “It is important to uphold the standards expected of Team USA athletes, and we remain committed to addressing any actions that undermine our values.”
The Washington Post further stated that the four swimmers face sanctions and loss of stipends in addition to being prohibited from the closing ceremony.

Raleigh Crossley broke the world record in the 50-meter freestyle race on August 29 in Paris. Long, who has previously expressed her disapproval of cheating at the Paralympics, responded angrily to an Instagram post on which her teammates were gloating about the accomplishment.
