Pedro ‘Pete’ Arredondo was indicted on 10 charges of child endangerment on Thursday, according to the Uvalde County sheriff’s office. He was subsequently booked and released from jail.
When a former student opened fire on Robb Elementary School in Texas, he was in charge of the police department of the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District (UCISD).
On May 24, Salvador Ramos killed two teachers and nineteen children, all of whom were between the ages of nine and eleven. Among the bloodiest school shootings in US history was this one.
After it became apparent that no one had tried to engage the 18-year-old for 77 minutes in the adjacent classrooms 111 and 112, the police department came under fire for their actions.
Three months after the shooting, the UCISD board of trustees unanimously decided to fire Arredondo.
Regarding any charges, the sheriff’s office was unable to provide precise information. Gonzales will be booked on Friday, according to news reporter Christina Mitchell, the district attorney for Uvalde County.
Among the first officers to arrive at the school were Arredondo and Gonzalez, and this represents the first criminal allegations made against any of the responding officers.
