Angelina Jolie has talked candidly about the emotional events that caused her to “lose” her voice.
Jolie discussed developing her voice for Maria in an interview with Cynthia Erivo for Variety’s Actors on Actors series.
“I was unaware of the extent of my voice loss. The Oscar winner told Erivo, “Maybe when I lost my mother, maybe when someone hurt me, whatever it was, the various things that had made it smaller and locked it away.” “So it was really emotional to find it and let it come out, and it’s a feeling I wish everyone had,” she continued.
Jolie admitted that she was “apprehensive” about learning to sing opera in order to perform Maria Callas, but she also stated that she “had the necessary tutors, Italian lessons, opera singing.
