The 34-year-old musician, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, recently went to the Grammy Awards after previously abstaining from them. He also released Hurry Up Tomorrow, his sixth studio album, which is the basis for the plot of the movie.
The film, which was directed and co-written by Trey Edward Shults, centers on a musician (The Weeknd) who has insomnia and sets out on an enigmatic adventure with a stranger (Ortega) that could endanger his life.
