Zoe Saldana has apologized to the Mexican people for any offense her most recent film, Emilia Pérez, may have caused.
After taking home the Best Supporting Actress trophy on Sunday night, the 46-year-old actress spoke with a Mexican reporter backstage at the Oscars.
The journalist claimed that Mexico was “at the heart” of the movie and that it was “very, very hurtful to Mexican people.”
In response, Saldana said, “First. We started from a position of love, and I stand by that. I sincerely apologize if you and many other Mexicans felt insulted.
For those who are unaware, Emilia Pérez received two Oscars—Original Song and Saldana’s award—out of her thirteen nominations.
