LAHORE: On behalf of the previous ruling party, Shehbaz Sharif, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) has entered a seat adjustment process with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) for three National Assembly (NA) constituencies, including NA-242.
The election tribunal gave the PML-N president permission to run in the next general elections, which are scheduled for February 8, coming from Karachi’s Keamari area, which used to be a MQM-P stronghold.
In addition to Shehbaz, sources informed Geo News on Tuesday that the PML-N would run candidates for 11 provincial assembly seats inside these constituencies and five NA seats, including NA-229, 230, and 239.
According to them, the MQM-P candidates from Malir’s NA-231 constituency would run in the polls for the national and provincial assembly seats.
The sources went on to say that the party with its headquarters in Karachi will run candidates for the provincial seats in the NA-242 district.
According to them, the PML-N would also run for the NA seats in Sukkur, Nawabshah, and Mirpurkhas.
Shehbaz said on December 29 that he has filed his nomination papers from Karachi’s NA-242 constituency for the next general elections. Mustafa Kamal, the Senior Deputy Convener of the MQM-P, had also filed his papers in this same constituency.
Shehbaz ran in the 2018 general elections from Karachi’s NA-249 seat, however he was narrowly defeated by Faisal Vawda, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) at the time.
