The 33-year-old might still be selected for the Lions’ summer tour of Australia, even if he switched to the Paris side in the summer, disqualifying him from consideration for the England team.
Former Lions player Farrell stated, “It’s a massive thing for any British player, but it’s a long way away.”
“At the moment, I’m not giving it any thought. I’m occupied with attempting to adapt to this place and give Racing my all.”
Owen’s father, Ireland head coach Andy Farrell, will captain the Lions in Australia, and overseas-based players had previously been selected for the team.
Finn Russell, formerly of Bath and Scotland, toured South Africa in 2021 while playing fly-half for Racing 92, while Leigh Halfpenny, then of Toulon, was part of the 2017 tour to New Zealand.
But when playing club rugby at Toulon, England fly-half Jonny Wilkinson declined a spot on the 2013 tour of Australia, in part due to a scheduling conflict that may come up again.
The Top 14 league season in France will have its semi-final and final on June 21 and June 28, respectively.
