Busy shopping and transit hubs may make it easier for traffickers to get away with illegal activities, even if complaints of human trafficking do not often rise around the holidays.
The Department of Homeland Security defines human trafficking as “modern-day slavery” that “involves the use of force, fraud, or coercion.” Experts fighting the global trafficking crisis say there are some key indicators of human trafficking that concerned citizens should watch out for if they suspect nefarious activity.
The vice president of the Analytical Services Division of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), Staca Shehan, told Fox News Digital, “Child sex trafficking happens 365 days a year in small towns and big cities across the country, and that definitely includes the holidays.”
