Discussions over Pakistani batsman Babar Azam’s potential as an opener for the forthcoming International Cricket Council (ICC) Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, which is scheduled to take place from February 19 to March 9, have been stoked by his recent lackluster performances.
In a post-match news conference after Pakistan’s five-wicket loss to New Zealand in the tri-nation ODI series final on Friday, interim head coach Aqib Javed expressed support for Babar’s promotion to the opening position.
Javed supported the management’s choice to promote the top batsman, saying he was confident Babar will succeed in this important position in the upcoming important games.
“If you look at the away series against South Africa, the right-hand batter had to bat in the first over in all cases”.
