Matt Ryan, a former player for the Atlanta Falcons, stated that he wasn’t shocked that Raheem Morris was selected as the team’s next head coach and that he thinks the group is only missing a quarterback to realize its full potential.
Bill Belichick, who had two job interviews, lost out to Morris. Before Arthur Smith was appointed head coach of the Falcons in 2019, Morris filled in as interim head coach. Before returning to Atlanta, he then worked as the defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams from 2021 to 2023.
Speaking to Fox News Digital in Las Vegas on behalf of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, Ryan had nothing but kind things to say about Morris, particularly during his tenure as Atlanta’s quarterback.
“I believe that Bill’s potential contribution to the company was taken into account. However, I’m not shocked that Raheem returned there. He spent six years living with us in Atlanta. He was always so good, in my opinion. He had experience coaching a variety of positions. He replaced us as our defensive coordinator, went to offense, then returned to defense to take over as our acting head coach. I therefore observed him in all of these various contexts. He was a man capable of coaching anyone. He simply has a knack for outplaying the players.
Ryan said that Morris’ prior experience with the Falcons gives him an advantage in knowing the organization.
