One of the first third-party stores to be available on iOS is now available thanks to publisher Epic Games’ launch of its own app store, however UK iPhone users will have to wait until next year to play.
Users of Android devices can start flossing immediately, but first they must download the new Epic Games Store, which includes Rocket League and Fall Guys.
With the debut of the store, Epic and the tech behemoths begin a protracted war royale.
In several court disputes, Epic asserted that Apple and Google engaged in anti-competitive behavior.
2020 saw the removal of Fortnite from both marketplaces as Epic ceased to pay a commission for downloads.
It lost a lawsuit against Apple in which it claimed that iPhones and other devices should be able to run third-party app stores.
But when a new EU rule went into effect in March, Apple was forced to permit other retailers to sell EU products.
The Guardian believes that Epic Games plans to reintroduce the Fortnite game to UK iPhones in late 2025.
