In the midst of an increase in migrant boat catastrophes, which are mostly caused by organized crime networks, Pakistan’s embassy in Tehran announced in a statement that at least four Pakistani nationals had been rescued from human traffickers working with the Iranian government.
Traffickers use air, sea, and land channels to unlawfully transport people to destinations, mostly in Europe, and human smuggling is still a major problem in Pakistan. Authorities keep trying to stop this illegal commerce, but smugglers adjust to the rules, so the problem persists.
“Four Pakistani citizens were successfully rescued today by the Embassy of Pakistan with the assistance of the Government of Iran,” the statement added, adding that the rescue operation also resulted in the arrest of the human smugglers.
