In order to vaccinate more than 2.6 million children under five years old against the paralyzing poliovirus, the government of Balochistan is scheduled to begin a vital seven-day polio campaign today (December 30).
Pakistan has recorded 67 cases of the debilitating sickness in 2024 and has seen a startling increase in the poliovirus’s spread. Only the south-western province has reported 27 of these.
In light of the increasing threat, officials from the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) has announced launching a fresh inoculation drive in a bid to eliminate the virus and protect young children from lifelong paralysis.
“We urge all parents to make sure their children receive the polio vaccine. Your assistance is important in safeguarding the future of our children,” said an EOC representative.
