When police investigated a self-storage facility in Wentworthville, they discovered a number of bags belonging to the Royal Australian Mint that contained the cartoon currency, according to New South Wales Police.
Earlier this year, the mint created one Australian dollar (50p in the UK) coins with characters from the animated show. They are regarded as legal tender.
Months before they were supposed to go into circulation, 63,000 of the special edition coins were taken from a warehouse in Wetherill Park, New South Wales, according to authorities on July 12.
Known as Bluey Dollarbucks, they have been offered for sale on eBay for up to ten times their face value.
Strike Force Bandit, a police unit looking into the heist and named after Bluey’s father in the program, found 40,061 of the stolen coins on Tuesday.
