Although they have not yet made his identity public, police have told the man’s family that they believe the torso belonged to a man in his 60s.
According to Detective Superintendent Lewis Hughes, they were investigating four crime locations in the Greater Manchester region and Salford.
The previous two days have seen the discovery of human remains at Linnyshaw Colliery Wood and Blackleach Reservoir in Salford.
Before the remains were discovered, officers had already recognized the two locations, according to Det Supt Hughes, and they were “on route to the Colliery Wood” when a dog walker called to report finding a package.
