The Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) in Pakistan has a new director general, Lieutenant General Muhammad Asim Malik, who is the first top to hold a PhD in the agency’s history.
This will be his official function as of September 30.
At the National Defence University, Gen. Malik’s dissertation work examined Pakistan-U.S. relations, giving him important insights into the intricate dynamics between the two countries.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif accepted his appointment on the advice of the military hierarchy.
Gen. Malik has a wealth of expertise; he conducted operations in Waziristan and oversaw infantry divisions in Balochistan while serving as adjutant general at the General Headquarters.
