The issue of transgender kids’ access to gender-affirming care has generated controversy across the country and is currently on its way to the US Supreme Court.
Young people who identify as transgender and their families are challenging a Tennessee statute that prohibits gender-affirming medical care for minors, and the court will hear oral arguments on the matter on Wednesday.
Based on research from the Movement Advancement Project, a nonprofit think tank that supports LGBTQ rights, it is one of 26 states that have banned transgender children and teens from receiving gender-affirming medical care.
