In a video that was shared on social media over the weekend, tight end for the New York Giants, Darren Waller, shockingly revealed his decision to retire from the NFL at the age of 31.
But in the almost eighteen-minute video that was uploaded on YouTube on Sunday, the former NFL star talked about a horrific medical emergency that, in his own words, was a major factor in his decision.
Waller, who spent a season playing for the New York Jets in 2018, said that he had an injury during the Giants’ Week 8 loss to the Jets, forcing him to sit out and recover as the team went to Las Vegas to play the Raiders.
Waller claimed that during that same period, he also recorded the music video for his hit “Faith Test.” But the former NFL athlete claimed that he started feeling unwell on the way home and thought it might be another COVID episode.
“I was shaking so badly and uncontrollably by the time I got out of the car and parked in my condo’s garage that I thought, ‘This is a little strange, a little different.'” I suppose it will just be a little harder than the last one.”
Waller claimed he attempted to sleep it off, but that night he woke up unable to breathe. Then he gave 911 a call.
