According to sources who spoke to News on Thursday, Jason Gillespie, the head coach of the Pakistani side, has opted to retire early in advance of the forthcoming Test series against South Africa.
Following the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) decision to not extend the contract of red-ball assistant coach Tim Nielsen, Gillespie made his decision.
Neilsen’s contract expired following the Green Shirt’s recent trip of Australia. Neilsen was hired in August as the high-performance red-ball coach.
The assistant coach disclosed that even though he had stated his commitment to the forthcoming South Africa and West Indies series, the cricket organization had told him his services were no longer needed.
According to the sources, Gillespie informed the board that he had decided not to travel to South Africa for personal reasons. It was anticipated that the head coach would show up.
