Norwegian public prosecutors told Sport that the father of renowned distance runner Jakob Ingebrigtsen, who is accused of abusing his son physically and mentally, will go on trial next year.
Three of his seven children, Henrik, Filip, and two-time Olympic gold champion Jakob, were coached by Gjert Ingebrigtsen until February 2022. The brothers initially claimed in October of last year that their father had threatened and physically abused them.
Public prosecutor Birgitte Budal Løvlund told reporters, “I can confirm that on November 29th, our office indicted Gjert Ingebrigtsen for the physical and mental abuse of his son Jakob Ingebrigtsen.”
The matter has been sent to Sør-Rogaland’s district court for planning. At least thirty days should be set aside, per the prosecution’s request.
