Glen Powell, the popular romantic comedy star from Anyone But You, is standing up for romantic comedies, calling it “silly” to make fun of them.
“At least for me, I’ve always been a fan of movies in general and I always find it silly when certain actors diminish certain genres,” the Top Gun star remarked in a speech at the Sundance Film Festival.
“When done right, it brings such joy and enjoyment to the audience, and acting allows you to play a lot of different roles,” the speaker continued. It’s kind of ridiculous to look down on and mock a genre.
“For me, ‘Anyone But You’ was such a treat to see audiences dance out of the theater and feel so happy after watching a movie,” the 35-year-old said, using his most recent movie as an example.
“To watch the box office not just stick but grow has been such a cool lesson that audiences are sometimes most drawn to forgotten genres,” he went on.
