According to an EU agency on Friday, global temperatures have risen “beyond what modern humans have ever experienced” during the past two years, surpassing a key warming limit on average for the first time.
The Copernicus Climate Change Service noted that while the globally agreed-upon warming threshold of 1.5 degrees Celsius has not been permanently exceeded, it is getting dangerously close.
By exceeding 2023 and continuing a run of exceptional heat that fueled climate extremes on every continent, the EU monitor certified that 2024 was the warmest year on record.
With climate skeptic Donald Trump taking president and a deadline for countries to commit to more significant reductions in growing greenhouse gas levels, 2025 is not expected to be another record-breaking year.
However, 2025 is predicted by the UK weather service.
