For US users of the Google Maps app, the Gulf of Mexico is now known as the Gulf of America.
Google provided an explanation for the change, stating that it was part of “a longstanding practice” to follow name changes when they are announced by official government sources.
It stated that users in Mexico would not be able to alter the Gulf, which is bounded by the United States, Cuba, and Mexico; instead, users in other countries would see the designation “Gulf of Mexico (Gulf of America)”.
Following his return to office last month, President Donald Trump issued an order to rename the body of water in US government records.
