Though earphones, phones, and AI have all undergone changes, one smartwatch modification is revolutionary.
Google’s new Loss of Pulse Detection feature for the Pixel Watch employs artificial intelligence to detect when the wearer’s pulse stops.
In that case, it triggers additional sensors to check if it senses a pulse or movement. The watch starts attempting to check-in with the user if nothing is found, at which point it sounds an audible alarm and starts a countdown that lasts 20 seconds.
The wearer’s location and vital signs are shared with emergency personnel during an automatic call that is made if those steps are finished without the wearer answering.
According to Google, this kind of technology has never been integrated into a smartwatch before, and the feature was developed in collaboration with cardiologists, hospital administrators, and emergency room personnel.
The United Kingdom, Austria, Denmark, France, Ireland, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and Switzerland have all approved its use.

Consumers only want AI “where it makes sense and it’s sensibly integrated,” according to Which? tech specialist Andrew Laughlin, who spoke with News prior to these announcements.
