A £100m credit boost has been obtained by a Highland port that is slated to become a “offshore wind hub” from banks backed by the UK and Scottish governments.
The 450-acre location between Inverness and Nairn is presently undergoing development by Haventus, the owner of Ardersier Port in the Moray Firth.
In addition to helping the UK and Europe’s offshore wind projects reach net zero, the redevelopment of the former McDermott construction yard is expected to facilitate the domestic decommissioning of aging North Sea oil and gas installations.
Hundreds of employment will be supported by the development, which is a part of the Inverness and Cromarty Firth Green Freeport complex, when it opens in 2025.
At the location, construction has already begun on a new 650-meter quay wall.
