The Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) has said that a government that does not protect and fulfill the rights of its citizens will be justified in calling it a “failure” as Pakistan prepares for the impending elections.
“If any government fails to meet the legitimate demands of the people and their rights due to its incompetence and [prevailing] injustice, [such government] is to be deemed guilty in the world, afterlife,” the CII stated in a statement on Wednesday.
The nation of approximately 241 million people, including over 128 million voters, will exercise their fundamental right by choosing their representatives on February 8—the day of the top religious authority’s statements.
The ICC, a constitutional authority that counsels lawmakers on matters of religion, released a statement.
