With a total budget of Rs487 billion, the Energy Ministry has unveiled a comprehensive plan detailing how consumers in the power sector will receive subsidies in the future.
The idea calls for these subsidies to be connected to social protection programs, with the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) data being used to identify the recipients.
This model ensures targeted support by allocating a sizeable share of the subsidy to different consumer categories:
Lifeline users: Because they are the most vulnerable and use the least amount of electricity, a subsidy of Rs. 20 billion is proposed for them.
Protected consumers (up to 200 units): A subsidy of Rs 380 billion is anticipated for customers who use up to 200 units of electricity each month.
