The federal government on Tuesday accepted the mediation offer of Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, the chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), and assigned him the responsibility of starting talks with the defiant Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), as the opposition parties prepare for another nationwide protest drive following Eid ul Fitr.
This comes a day after Bilawal volunteered to intervene between the government and opposition in order to promote a national discussion and ease the country’s continuing political tensions during a speech at Governor House in Lahore.
“I have told the prime minister that the PPP is prepared to serve as a bridge between political forces in order to promote communication and collaboration,” he stated. According to the PPP leader, his party is still willing to engage in productive engagement with the administration.
