ISLAMABAD: A few days after the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) ended discussions with the government, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced Thursday that the government was prepared to establish a parliamentary committee to continue talks with the group.
The release of “political prisoners” and the establishment of judicial commissions to investigate the events of May 9, 2023, and November 24-27, 2024, were among the demands the PTI made, but the government was not genuinely interested in meeting them; therefore, the party abruptly ended the negotiations after three meetings.
After months of increased political tensions, during which the former ruling party had repeatedly taken to the streets, the discussion process between the PML-N-led government and the PTI began in late December.
Following the breakdown of negotiations, the PTI has now declared that it will hold public events.
