LAHORE: According to President Asif Ali Zardari, the government intends to tax agricultural income in accordance with the guidelines set forth by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Tuesday.
But he also said that the idea to tax large landholding farmers based on their income and expenses will come from the provincial administrations.
In addition to discussing media and democratic concerns, the president made these statements at the Professor Waris Mir Memorial Seminar in the province capital.
Zardari emphasized the need for a comprehensive strategy and responsible financial practices to set the nation on the path to growth, even as he pointed out the economic obstacles.
He claimed that the economy’s many sectors, particularly the agricultural one, needed to be developed in a contemporary manner.
