After finishing the season in caretaker leadership, the former captain of Hibs, who had won the Scottish Cup, had accepted in principle to fill the position permanently.
After discussions over the 36-year-old Edinburgh native’s backroom personnel are over, a formal announcement will be made.
In May, Gray took over as temporary manager for a fourth time following the dismissal of Nick Montgomery.
After stints at Heart of Midlothian, Preston North End, Plymouth Argyle, Royal Antwerp, Stevenage, and Burton Albion, the former right-back started his playing career as a young player.
But his greatest achievement came in 2014, when he moved to Easter Road and captained the first Hibs team.
After retiring from competitive play in 2021, Gray joined the first team as a coach. In his five games as caretaker coach, he had five victories, three draws, and four losses due to the exits of Jack Ross, Shaun Maloney, Lee Johnson, and Montgomery.
Under his leadership, Hibs concluded the campaign in dismal eighth position in the Scottish Premiership, with a home victory over Motherwell and a draw away to Livingston.
