According to Greenpeace, it might be destroyed by a lawsuit filed by an energy firm regarding the Dakota Access Pipeline.
Energy Transfer, a Texas-based corporation, claims that Greenpeace’s protest methods caused delays in the project, which started moving oil in 2017 after receiving support from President Donald Trump during his first term.
Greenpeace claims that although the lawsuit threatens free expression, it did not lead the thousands of people who turned out to protest the project at the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation. Additionally, it states that if the organization loses, it “could face financial ruin, ending over 50 years of environmental activism.”
Jury selection for the North Dakota trial starts Monday and is anticipated to last five weeks.
