According to a recent study produced by the Pakistan Council for Research on Water Resources (PCRWR), Pakistan is facing an increasing crisis in its subterranean water supplies and is concerned about a further decline in water levels throughout the nation.
Concerns about future water scarcity have been raised by the report’s findings that the nation’s subsurface water has decreased by more than 5.66% over the previous eight years.
The amount of groundwater depletion in different provinces was described in detail in the PCRWR publication. The biggest province, Punjab, has seen a major decline in its subsurface water sources; as of right now, 22.84% of the area lacks any groundwater at all. Furthermore, 36.17% of Punjab is getting close to a tipping point where all of its subsurface water may disappear.
