According to an Angus Reid Institute survey, the majority of Canadians appear disinterested in the conflict.
A recent survey indicates that Canadians are becoming less involved in the fight and are becoming less supportive of Ukraine as the somber two-year anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of that country draws near, particularly among Conservatives.
A quarter of Canadians now feel that Canada is giving “too much support” to Ukraine in its conflict, up from 13% who felt the same thing in May 2022, according to an Angus Reid Institute survey released this morning.
Based on the poll, conservative backers are the main reason for that outcome.
The proportion of Canadians who supported the Conservative Party in the most recent election and now believe that Canada is aiding Ukraine excessively has more than doubled, rising from 19% in May 2022 to 43%.
According to Shachi Kurl, head of the Angus Reid Institute, “it’s a massive jump.” “This has the potential to be something of a political Gordian knot for Pierre Poilievre.”
A deal on Canada-Ukraine security assurance might be concluded in weeks, according to the foreign minister.
Conservatives demand that Canada provide rockets to Ukraine, but not all of them are prepared for combat.
According to Kurl, figuring out the causes of the change is currently mostly a guessing game.
One the one hand, she noted, Conservative voters have a strong history of supporting the armed forces. She continued, “That stance might conflict with Conservative support for limited government and lower taxes.”
