For her portrayal of Granny Smith, a woman who was struck by a magic ray and later gained superpowers, Ure attracted a devoted fan base across the globe.
Ure passed away at home in her London abode.
Kate McNeill, her niece, verified her death.
“She had a very memorable voice,” Ms. McNeill stated.
“I remember my husband was watching Casualty one night, and I went ‘that’s Gudrun’ as soon as I heard the voice.”
In 1951, she made her stage debut as Desdemona in a staging of Othello, under the direction of the renowned Hollywood director Orson Welles. She also redubbed Suzanne Cloutier’s role in the adaptation of Welles’ novel for the big screen.
